Media Release from Shadow Treasurer, Bill Yan MLA and Shadow Minister for Youth, Joshua Burgoyne MLA:
The impact of Labor’s crime crisis across the Territory has claimed another victim, with People’s Choice announcing it is permanently closing its branch in Alice Springs due to ongoing safety and security concerns.
“Crime has got so bad under the Lawler Labor Government that one of our banks feels it cannot keep its staff safe to serve the community,” Shadow Treasurer Bill Yan said.
“In Darwin it is not safe to take your kids to get ice cream with Johnn Johnns closing and in Alice Springs we cannot do our banking in safety.
“Under Labor Alice Springs residents have no choice but to suffer from the impacts of crime as this government refuse to strengthen the laws and give police the powers they need.”
Shadow Minister for Youth, Joshua Burgoyne, said People’s Choice now joins an unenviable list of businesses that have shut their doors since Territory Labor was elected 8 long years ago
“Empty NT shop fronts serve as a reminder of Eva Lawler’s failure to manage the economy, grow business investment, and create jobs for Territorians.
“We want our small businesses to grow and thrive. But crime and cost of living is threatening to shut their doors for good. Many have already shut-up shop, having been let down by Labor.
“Crime is skyrocketing, The Territory’s economy is in freefall, cost of living is crippling business, our population is shrinking, and Labor doesn’t have any new ideas to address it,” Mr Burgoyne said.
The CLP team will take the tough decisions to again make the Territory safe and a great place to live, work and invest. The CLP has a plan to rebuild the Territory.
Only the CLP has a plan to grow our economy and make Territorians safe.
A CLP Government will reduce crime, rebuild our economy and restore our lifestyle.
