Media Release from Shadow Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby MLA:
The CLP is supporting tourism and will extend the Territory Tourism Discount Scheme to help drive this important industry.
Shadow Minister for Tourism Marie-Clare Boothby said the CLP would boost tourism as part of our plan to restore the Territory’s reputation as a safe place to visit.
“After listening to local tourism operators we are delighted to announce we will extend the $1 million Territory Tourism Discount Scheme to cover a six month period from the end of October to the end of April each year”, Shadow Minister for Tourism Marie-Claire Boothby said.
“This is great news for tourism which continues to play a vital part of the economy driving economic activity and investment across the Territory.
“This commitment will encourage more tourist to come to the Top End.
“Our priority is to address Labor’s crime crisis to help restore the Territory’s reputation as a safe place to visit. Under Labor, tourism has suffered with major events like the Darwin Cup carnival down in ticket sales, the cancellation of the Henley on Todd, low registrations for the Alice Springs Masters Games and a fall in crowd numbers at the recent Supercars event.
“The Territory is doing it tough, including our tourism sector, and Territorians deserve so much better. To accelerate the growth of tourism to the Territory we must make the Territory a safe place to visit.”
“We will give police better powers to deal with youth offenders and public drinking, strengthen the laws for police and make offenders responsible for their actions”, Ms Boothby said.
Only the CLP has a plan to grow our economy and make Territorians safe. By rebuilding the Territory’s reputation as a safe place to live, work and invest, we will create jobs and opportunities.
