Media Release from Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro:
The CLP is ready to help Territorians achieve their dream to build or buy their new home using our HomeGrown Territory Program – the most generous in the country.
Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said, “First home buyers in the Northern Territory could apply for up to $50,000 to help build a new home under a CLP government.”
“HomeGrown Territory will get people out of the rental cycle and into home ownership, people like Anjan Paudel who has been trying to save for a deposit for the past 2 years.”
Anjan, 28, a paralegal from Coconut Grove, has lived in Darwin for 9 years after coming to Darwin in 2015 as an international student and meeting his wife, Pramisha, here.
“My wife and I have established our lives here, and we cherish Darwin's vibrant community and unique lifestyle,” Mr Paudel said.
“A grant of $50,000 would be a tremendous help in achieving our goal of homeownership. It would significantly reduce the financial barrier to entry by helping with the deposit.”
“Owning a home represents more than just a financial investment. It is about creating a permanent place to grow, build memories, and feel truly settled. It is a dream to have a space that reflects our hard work and commitment to this community,” Mr Paudel said.
The HomeGrown Territory Program includes a number of incentives designed to get young Territorians, families and people looking for a fresh start into their own homes faster than ever before.
Mrs Finocchiaro said, “The CLP is helping Territorians stay in the Territory through its HomeGrown and FreshStart home grants which will give Territorians, even if they currently own a home or have owned a home before, the opportunity to help build a new home.
From first home buyers to seniors, HomeGrown Territory will support Territorians into a new home.”

Mrs Finocchiaro said, “This is a bold plan that will help boost our population, retain skilled workers and stimulate construction. Under Labor, all we get is more of the same not changing the game.”
